New life cycle assessment confirms Clover Imaging printer cartridges have lower environmental impact than OEM cartridges
Chicago, IL – Clover Imaging Group, a global leader in environmentally responsible printing and imaging solutions, today announced the completion of a new Comparative Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) comparing Clover Imaging remanufactured toner cartridges versus their original equipment manufacturer (OEM) from cradle to beginning were rated -Graveful Perspective. This third-party peer-reviewed LCA was conducted by Aspire Sustainability, a leading provider of innovative LCA studies with a portfolio spanning over 50 product and technology categories.
Based on the environmental indicators evaluated, Clover Imaging’s remanufactured black and color toner cartridges were found to have lower environmental life cycle impacts in all statistically significant impact categories compared to their OEM counterparts. Sensitivity and uncertainty analyzes indicate that the results are robust to key assumptions and statistically differentiated.
A full life cycle analysis of a Clover Imaging remanufactured black ink cartridge (200891P) compared to the equivalent OEM cartridge (HP CF226A) revealed the following key findings:
- 53% lower carbon footprint
- 59% less energy consumption
- 52% reduced impact on natural resources
- 66% reduced human health impact
The color cartridge results were comparable and are included in the study linked below.
Commenting on the study’s findings, Eric Martin, President of Clover Imaging Group, said, “When we speak to sustainability and procurement executives from across all industries, the most common question we get asked is, ‘How are Clover Imaging remanufactured ink cartridges made? become less? our carbon and energy footprint?’ This updated LCA allows us to reliably quantify the carbon footprint and reduction in energy consumption that a company will achieve by switching from OEM cartridges to our cartridges. This is a game changer for companies and organizations that have commissioned sustainability initiatives.”
Keli Posch, Director of Marketing and Sustainability at Clover Imaging added: “Over the last 18 months we have seen the circular economy model quickly gain momentum. The growing consensus in the environmental community is that recycling plastic simply will not solve the environmental challenges we face and we need to focus more on reuse. This LCA confirms that Clover’s circular business model of reusing an OEM plastic sleeve multiple times through remanufacturing is environmentally superior to molding and manufacturing new cartridges, even if those new cartridges contain a high percentage of recycled plastic.”
Over the next several months, Clover Imaging will provide training and a variety of end-user marketing materials to its reseller partners to communicate the impactful results of this study.
