Spidi introduces versatile new Air DPS airbag vest
We’re seeing more and more airbag vests hit the market these days and that’s good news for customers. Whether you prefer an airbag that fits under racing leather or one that goes over your jacket, there are more options than ever before. Drivers can even choose between products that use proprietary algorithms or cable ties to deploy the safety system.
The new Air DPS airbag vest from Spidi is based on their 20 years of experience in this area and offers an extremely versatile and effective unit. The Air DPS prefers a vest that goes beyond the user’s equipment and does not have the compatibility issues found with competitors such as Alpinestars’ Tech-Air and Dainese D-Air systems. In addition, Spidi’s design matches many of the jackets that can be found on the sports and adventure touring market today, so the Air DPS fades into the background.
In addition to the universal fit, the Spidi vest also uses a Kevlar cable to connect any motorcycle or scooter. When activated, the 26-liter bag inflates in 200 milliseconds, protecting the user’s upper body, back, hips and neck. The coverage and activation time also qualify the Air DPS for the strict European safety standard for airbags according to EN 1624-2: 2013 FB.
The new vest from Spidi not only offers comprehensive protection in milliseconds, but is also durable. The brand states that a mandatory Air DPS check is not required until after seven deployments, but recommends that owners have the airbag checked after three deployments. The vest is made of Spidis TexTech material, is waterproof and yet breathable and at the same time resistant to cuts and abrasion. The Air DPS is a viable addition to any riding outfit and weighs just 2.4 pounds.
For USD 699.90, the Air DPS airbag vest is available in sizes M, L, and XXL, but Spidi only offers a Fluo Yellow color scheme. Replacement CO2 cartridges only cost an additional $ 25.90 and should keep the Spidi vest on the road long after more and more airbags hit the market.
